Description

CS4HS 2017 is a collection of workshops focused on preparing New Zealand educators for teaching the computer science and programming achievement standards for NCEA. The event is particularly focused on people who have no background in Computer Science, and are teaching these topics for the first time, or would like to go over the basics really carefully. Have a look at the schedule below for more details of the content of the event.

The event runs at the University of Canterbury from the 6th to 8th of December 2017, with optional programming workshops occurring on the 4th and 5th of December.

To be eligible to attend the event, you must:

  • Be involved in education within New Zealand (this includes studying as a educator).
  • Not have attended the Christchurch CS4HS event more than twice.

Due to generous sponsorship, we are able to provide all accommodation (Tue 5 Dec to Friday 8 Dec) and food for the main event (Wed 6 Dec to Fri 8 Dec) for free. We can also provide a travel subsidy for those travelling over 200 kilometers to the event. There is also optional programming workshops (Mon 4 Dec to Tues 5 Dec), which cost $200.00 to attend, with accommodation available for Sunday 3rd Dec and Monday 4th Dec for $65.00 each. You are welcome to attend a programming workshop and not the main event, however we cannot provide you a transport subsidy as our sponsors only funds CS4HS attendees.

It's ok to fine-tune parts of registration later e.g. changing the exact number of nights you'll be staying, contact csse-teacher-events@canterbury.ac.nz if you need to change your registration. For those paying to attend programming workshops, we will send an invoice to you in mid-November. Note that there is no refund and/or subsidy if you are unable to attend and do not inform us. If you do let us know about cancelling before the event, we will refund your ticket where possible (however admin fees still apply). See the Terms and Conditions on the registration form for more details.
